Former Super Bowl exec to be honored for her contributions to Arizona’s economy & reputation as a premier destination for mega sporting events; Parry to be recognized as part of the Chamber’s Annual Awards ceremony on June 6
PHOENIX (May 9, 2023)—The Arizona Chamber Foundation and Chamber Business News are pleased to announce Jay Parry as the 2023 Top Newsmaker honoree – an annual award that recognizes a business or civic leader whose efforts have been instrumental in advancing Arizona’s economy and reputation as a premier state for business investment and job creation.
As two-time president and CEO of Arizona’s Super Bowl Host Committee – in 2015 and then again in 2023 – and now as head of the 2024 Phoenix Men’s Final Four Host Committee, Jay’s leadership has helped secure Arizona’s position as a top destination for major, multi-million-dollar sporting championships. In turn, the success of these events has helped the sports industry emerge as a key sector of Arizona’s economy, spurring new investment, jobs, and distinction for our state.
“We cannot think of a more timely or deserving recipient of this year’s Top Newsmaker Award than Jay Parry,” said Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Danny Seiden. “As CEO of Arizona’s Super Bowl Host Committee, Jay was responsible for twice executing one of the world’s biggest mega-events right here in our state – putting Arizona in the international spotlight and generating a massive economic windfall for our state and local communities. We’re looking forward to hosting a second NCAA Men’s Final Four next spring thanks to her continued leadership on the host committee. We are grateful for what Jay has done to advance Arizona’s sports industry and bring long-term economic impact and investment to our state.”
Economists estimate that in 2015 the Super Bowl resulted in a nearly $720 million impact for the state, and Super Bowl LVII is expected to bring an even greater boost to the state’s economy. The success of these events has allowed Arizona to showcase its capabilities, not just as an outstanding place to visit and recreate, but as America’s best place to locate and grow a business. Meetings that occur around these events among state and local officials and business leaders have led to millions in additional new capital investment and business expansions and thousands of new jobs.
“I’m immensely grateful to the Arizona Chamber Foundation for this recognition,” said Jay Parry. “Having the opportunity to oversee the success of some of the world’s biggest sporting events, right here Arizona, has been a reward in and of itself; to be recognized by the state’s most influential business organization is truly an honor. I’m proud to be a part of something that generates so much positive impact for the economy and for the community, and look forward to keeping up that momentum in 2024 and long into the future.”
Jay Parry will be recognized with the Chamber Foundation’s Top Newsmaker honor as part of the Arizona Chamber’s Annual Awards Celebration on Thursday, June 6.
